“en plein air” is the French term for painting outdoors. Traditionally plein air paintings are done on site with traditional painting or drawing materials, whatever you have on hand. There is no predetermined look associated with plein air paintings and that’s intentional because this form of painting was created during the impressionist era, a time where academic norms surrounding style were being challenged.
pleinairpril is an online art challenge created by the warrior painters where artist are tasked with doing a plein air style painting every day for the month of April. The goal is to improve observation skills, increase artistic confidence in painting and have fun while exploring around your area!
